Hawaii - Voter Registration Information

VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens, who are at least 18 years of age, are residents of the state, and are not incarcerated under felony conviction, are eligible to register to vote in Hawaii. You may register by mail by completing a voter registration application card, which is available at public libraries, post offices, and many city, county, and state agencies. You can also register in person at your local Department of Motor Vehicles.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! To vote absentee, you may appear in person at an Absentee Polling Place located in the Office of your City/County Clerk. You can also vote absentee by mail, by either completing an "Application for Absentee Voter Ballot" or submitting a written request to the City/County Clerk where you are registered. The written request must include: your name, address, date of birth, social security number, the election in which you are voting absentee, a statement saying you will not be able to vote at your polling place on Election Day, your signature, and the address where you want the ballot mailed. Application for an absentee ballot must be made no earlier than sixty days and no later than seven days prior to an election.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Hawaii does not require registration by party, meaning all registered voters may vote in either of the party primaries, but not in more than one. When requesting an absentee ballot for a primary election, simply specify the ballot of your choice.
