Georgia - Voter Registration Information

VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens, who are at least 18 years of age and residents of the state, neither under felony conviction nor legally incompetent, are eligible to register to vote in Georgia. To register by mail, send in a completed mail-in voter registration form, which is available at public libraries, post offices, public schools, fire and police stations, offices of public assistance, and many county and state agencies, particularly the Registrar's Office (usually located in the courthouse). You can also register in person at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! To vote absentee in person, you may appear at the Registrar's Office as early as 45 days prior to an election and as late as the day before an election. To vote absentee through the mail, you must make a written request for an absentee ballot to the Elections Office using an absentee application. You can apply for an absentee ballot by mail as early as 180 days prior to an election, but no later than two days before an election.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Georgia does not require registration by party, meaning all registered voters may vote in either of the party primaries, but not in more than one. When requesting an absentee ballot for a primary election, be sure to specify the ballot for the party primary of your choice.
FOR MORE INFORMATION

For additional information on the elections, please contact the Georgia Secretary of State Elections Division at 404/656-2871. For information on specific party requirements, contact your State Republican Party at 404/257-5559, or your State Democratic Party at 678/278-2126.
