Colorado - Voter Registration Information

VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens who are 18 years of age or older, have resided in the state and precinct at least 30 days prior to an election, and are not under federal felony conviction, are eligible to register to vote. Colorado residents can register to vote: (1) through mail-in registration forms, which may be obtained at public libraries, post offices, public schools, fire and police stations, many county offices, and various state social service agencies; (2) by appearing in person at the county or municipal clerks offices; and (3) at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! You can vote via absentee ballot both in person and through the mail. To vote via absentee ballot in person, you may appear at the County Election Commission Office between 20 and five days prior to an election. To vote absentee ballot via mail, you must request an absentee ballot application from your County Election Commission no later than seven days before an election. You must return your completed application no later than five days before an election. The Commission will then mail you an official absentee ballot which you must complete and return to the Commission by the close of the polls on Election Day.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Colorado has a closed primary election system, which means only voters registered with a particular party can vote in the primary elections, and they are restricted to voting only in the primary of that party with which they are affiliated. Independent voters are prohibited from voting in the primary election unless they declare a party affiliation at the polls. If requesting an absentee ballot for the primary election, be sure to specify which party ballot you need.
